'Lefkaritiko Embroidery: Ways and Transformation'
In August 2015 I participated for 7 days in the Summer Workshop organized by the Cyprus National Commission for UNESCO in Lefkara village. The purpose was to get acquainted to the traditional technique of the Lefkaritiko embroidery, and then create a set of original works that reflect and utilize elements of the art of Lefkaritiko embroidery which is unique to Cyprus.
Some photos from the experience.
Me being very concentrated to do embroidery. Is not as easy as it looks!
My embroidery teacher who lives in Lefkara village. She taught me a few secrets of Lefkara embroidery!
Her amazing all handmade embroidered tablecloth; 4 years in the making! Iadmire the patience and devotion to this art form.
And not only that she cooks delicious food too. Lamb stew: with rice, lamb, and potatoes layered on top, in ceramic pot cooked for 2-3 hours in the stove, for those who are interested ;)!
Below some more embroidery from other ladies in the village.
Beautiful view of the village from a mountain top.
